1 corinthians 1 (NMV)

1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those who have been set apart in Christ Jesus, called to be His people, believers who belong to Christ, together with all those in every place who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I always give thanks to my God for you because of the grace of God that was given to you in Christ Jesus.

5 For in Him you were made rich in every way, in all speech and in all knowledge,

6 just as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you,

7 so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

8 He will also keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 God is faithful; you were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose.

11 For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers and sisters, by those from Chloe's household, that there are quarrels among you.

12 What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul," another, "I follow Apollos," another, "I follow Cephas," and another, "I follow Christ."

13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

15 so that no one can say you were baptized in my name.

16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not remember whether I baptized anyone else.)

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim the good news, not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ would not be emptied of its power.

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.

19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will frustrate the understanding of the intelligent."

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish?

21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through its own wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what was preached.

22 For Jews ask for signs and Greeks [non-Jews] seek wisdom,

23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles [non-Jews],

24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many of you were wise according to human standards, not many were influential, not many were of noble birth.

27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;

28 God chose what is lowly and despised in the world, things that are considered nothing, to bring to nothing the things that are,

29 so that no one may boast in the presence of God.

30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, along with being made right with God, being made holy, and freedom purchased by His payment.

31 Therefore, as it is written: "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
