timothy 5 (NMV)

Chapters: 1 2 3 4 5 6

Do not harshly rebuke an older man, but appeal to him as you would a father. Treat younger men as brothers,

older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with complete purity.

Honor widows who are truly in need.

But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should learn to show reverence for God toward their own household first and repay their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.

The true widow, left all alone, puts her hope in God and continues night and day in petitions and prayers.

But the self-indulgent widow is dead even while she lives.

Command these things as well, so that they may be blameless.

But if anyone does not provide for their own relatives, especially for members of their household, they have denied the faith and are worse than an unbeliever.

No widow should be enrolled for official support unless she is at least sixty years old, has been the wife of one husband,

and is well known for good works, if she has raised children, shown hospitality, washed the feet of believers who belong to Christ, helped those in distress, and devoted herself to every good work.

But refuse to enroll younger widows, for when their desires draw them away from Christ, they want to marry again,

and thus bring judgment on themselves because they have broken their earlier commitment.

At the same time, they learn to be idle, going from house to house, not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they shouldn't.

So I want younger widows to marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the enemy no opportunity for slander.

For some have already turned aside to follow Satan.

If any believing woman has widows in her family, let her help them so that the church is not burdened and can assist those who are truly in need.

The elders who lead well should be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.

For Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain," and, "The worker is worthy of his wages."

Do not accept an accusation against an elder unless it is supported by two or three witnesses.

Publicly rebuke those who continue in sin, so that the rest may stand in fear.

I solemnly charge you before God, Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels to observe these instructions without prejudice, doing nothing out of favoritism.

Do not be quick to lay hands on anyone, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.

Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

Some people's sins are obvious and go before them to judgment, but the sins of others follow later.

In the same way, good works are obvious, and even those that are not cannot remain hidden.
