Ephesians 4 (NMV)
Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling you have received,
with all humility and strength restrained in obedience to God, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one confident expectation when you were called,
one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.
Therefore it says: "When He ascended on high, He took captives into captivity; He gave gifts to people."
Now what does "He ascended" mean except that He also descended to the lower regions of the earth?
The One who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some shepherds and teachers,
to equip the believers who belong to Christ for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, growing into maturity, to the full measure of the stature of Christ.
Then we will no longer be immature, tossed back and forth by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching, by human trickery, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow in every way into Him who is the head, that is, Christ.
From Him the whole body, fitted and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
So I say this, and testify in the Lord: You must no longer walk as the Gentiles [non-Jews] walk, in the futility of their minds.
They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them and because of the hardness of their hearts.
Having become callous, they have given themselves over to unrestrained immorality for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more than God has provided for them.
But that is not how you came to know Christ,
assuming you heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus,
to take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires,
to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
and to put on the new self, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.
Therefore, putting away lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another.
Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger,
and do not give the devil an opportunity.
Let the thief steal no longer. Instead, let him work hard, doing what is good with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
Let no rotten or harmful speech come out of your mouths, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness, anger, wrath, shouting, and slander be removed from you, along with all malice.
And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
