Ephesians 5 (NMV)

Chapters: 1 2 3 4 5 6

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,

and walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

But sexual immorality and any kind of impurity or a desire for more than God has provided must not even be named among you, as is proper for people who belong to God.

Obscene, foolish, or coarse talk is also not suitable, but rather giving thanks.

For you can be sure of this: No one who is sexually immoral, impure, or filled with a desire for more than God has provided for them, which is a form of idolatry, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient.

Therefore, do not be partners with them.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,

for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth,

testing what is pleasing to the Lord.

Do not participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them.

For it is shameful even to speak about what they do in secret.

But everything exposed by the light is made visible,

for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it says: "Wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise,

making the most of the time, because the days are evil.

So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

And do not get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless behavior, but be filled with the Spirit:

speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord,

giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

and put yourselves under the authority of one another out of reverence for Christ.

Wives, put yourselves under the authority of your own husbands as to the Lord,

because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, He is the Savior of the body.

Now as the church puts itself under the authority of Christ, so also wives should put themselves under their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her

to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word.

He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.

In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

For no one ever hates his own body, but nourishes and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church,

because we are members of His body.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.
