Hebrews 10 (NMV)
Since the law is only a shadow of the good things to come and not the actual form of those realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices continually offered year after year, make those who approach perfect.
Otherwise, wouldn't they have stopped being offered, since the worshipers, once cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins?
But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year after year.
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: "You did not desire sacrifice and offering, but You prepared a body for Me.
You were not pleased with burnt offerings and sin offerings.
Then I said, 'Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll, I have come to do Your will, O God.'"
After saying above, "You did not desire or take pleasure in sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings" (which are offered according to the law),
He then says, "Here I am to do Your will." He takes away the first to establish the second.
And by that will, we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.
But this Man, after offering one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God.
Since then, He is waiting until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet.
For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being made holy.
The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after He says:
"This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws on their hearts and write them on their minds,"
He adds: "I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts."
Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His body,
and since we have a great High Priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold tightly to the confession of our confident expectation, without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
not neglecting to meet together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
For if we deliberately go on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
but only a terrifying expectation of judgment and a raging fire that will consume the adversaries.
Anyone who disregarded the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
How much worse punishment do you think someone deserves who has trampled on the Son of God, treated as unholy the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
For we know the One who said, "Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge His people."
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Remember the earlier days when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings.
Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insults and afflictions, and at other times you stood side by side with those who were treated this way.
You suffered with those in prison and joyfully accepted the seizure of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves had a better and lasting possession.
So do not throw away your confidence, it carries a great reward.
You need endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
"For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay;
but My righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, My soul takes no pleasure in him."
But we are not among those who shrink back and are destroyed, but among those who have faith and preserve their lives.
