Hebrews 3 (NMV)
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, focus your thoughts on Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.
He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's household.
For Jesus is worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves more honor than the house itself.
Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God.
Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, testifying to the things that would be spoken later.
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's household. And we are that household, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we affirm.
So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works for forty years.
Therefore I was angry with that generation and said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known My ways.'
So I swore in My anger, 'They will never enter My rest.'"
Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
Instead, encourage one another daily, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
For we have become partners with Christ, if we hold firmly until the end the confidence we had at the beginning.
As it is said: "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."
For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it all who came out of Egypt under Moses?
And with whom was He angry for forty years? Wasn't it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did He swear they would never enter His rest, if not to those who were disobedient?
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
