Hebrews 6 (NMV)
Therefore, leaving behind the elementary teachings about Christ, let us move on to maturity, not laying the foundation again of turning from your former ways of dead works and of faith in God,
instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
And we will move forward, if God allows it.
For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, shared in the Holy Spirit,
and tasted the goodness of God's word and the powers of the coming age,
and then have fallen away, to restore them again to turn from their former ways, because they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace.
For ground that drinks in the rain that often falls on it and produces vegetation useful to those for whom it is cultivated receives a blessing from God.
But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and in danger of being cursed. In the end, it will be burned.
Even though we are speaking this way, beloved, we are confident of better things in your case, things that accompany salvation.
For God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown toward His name by serving the believers, and continuing to serve them.
Now we want each of you to demonstrate the same diligence to the very end, so that your hope may be fully assured.
Then you will not become lazy, but will imitate those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself,
saying, "I will surely bless you and multiply you."
And after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained what had been promised.
People swear by someone greater than themselves, and an oath confirms what is said and ends every dispute.
Because God wanted to show the unchangeable nature of His purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath,
so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,
where Jesus has gone before us as a forerunner, having become a High Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
