1 Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?

2 Much in every way. First of all, they were entrusted with the very words of God.

3 What if some were unfaithful? Does their unfaithfulness nullify the faithfulness of God?

4 Absolutely not! Let God be true, though every person is a liar, as it is written: "So that You may be justified in Your words and prevail when You judge."

5 But if our unrighteousness highlights the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust to inflict wrath? (I speak in human terms.)

6 Absolutely not! Otherwise, how will God judge the world?

7 But if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I still judged as a sinner?

8 And why not say, as some slanderously claim we say, "Let us do evil so that good may come"? Their condemnation is deserved.

9 What then? Are we better off? Not at all. For we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks [non-Jews] are all under the power of sin,

10 as it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;

11 there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

12 All have turned away; together they have become worthless. There is no one who does good, not even one."

13 "Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they practice deceit." "The venom of vipers is under their lips."

14 "Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."

15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood;

16 ruin and misery are in their paths,

17 and the path of peace they have not known."

18 "There is no reverence for God before their eyes."

19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

20 For no one will be made right with God by works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified to by the Law and the Prophets,

22 that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 and are made right with God freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

25 God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His patience He had left past sins unpunished.

26 He did this to demonstrate His righteousness in the present time, so that He would be just and the one who makes people right with Him through faith in Jesus.

27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by a law of faith.

28 For we conclude that a person is made right with God by faith apart from works of the law.

29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not also the God of Gentiles [non-Jews]? Yes, of Gentiles also,

30 since God is one, who will make those who are circumcised right with Him by faith, and those who are uncircumcised right with Him through that same faith.

31 Do we then nullify the law through faith? Absolutely not! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
