Matthew 6 (NMV)
"Be careful not to practice your acts of charity in front of others to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
So when you give to those in need, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to receive honor from people. Truly, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
But when you give to those in need, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
so that your giving may be done in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners to be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
But when you pray, go into a secluded room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when you pray, do not speak without purpose using repetitive, meaningless words like the pagans do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Therefore, pray in this way: 'Our Father in heaven, Let Your name be honored as holy.
Let Your kingdom come, Let Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
And forgive us our offenses against You, As we also forgive those who have wronged us.
And do not lead us into temptation, But rescue us from the evil one. For Your's is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
For if you forgive others when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others when they sin against you, your Father will not forgive your sins.
When you fast [abstain from food for religious purposes], do not appear sad or displeased like the hypocrites, for they make their faces look worn and unkempt to show others they are fasting. Truly, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
But when you fast, groom yourself by applying oil to your head and washing your face,
so that your fasting will not be obvious to others, but only to your Father who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
Your eye is the lamp of the body. When your eye is spiritually clear and morally focused, your whole body is full of light.
But when your eye is corrupt, your whole body is full of darkness. So if the light within you is really darkness, how great that darkness is!
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will hold firmly onto one and look down on the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
For this reason, I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. For is not life greater than what sustains it, and the body greater than what covers it?
Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow, reap, or store food in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?
Who among you, by worrying, can add a foot and a half to his height?
And why do you worry about clothing? Consider how the wildflowers grow: They do not labor or spin thread,
Yet I tell you that not even King Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
If God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven as fuel for baking, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
So do not be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?'
For the pagans pursue all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
But seek first the kingdom of God and live in a way that aligns with His standards, and all these things will be provided for you.
Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
